The Czech Charles University Faculty of Medicine organized the International Medical PhD Conference in Hradec Králové for the 16th time between 20 and 23 November this year. Three participants represented our School at this prestigious event, which is only open to invited participants.

The conference brought together PhD students and professors from 15 medical universities in Europe. Two PhD students from our School were present in the multidisciplinary sections of the conference this year as well: Jasper Nörenberg (Department of Microbiology, supervisor: Dr. Alíz Barakonyi associate professor) and Balázs Ujvári (Department of Anatomy, supervisor: Dr. Balázs Gaszner associate professor). Dr. Boldizsár Czéh, full professor (Clinical Center Department of Laboratory Medicine) attended the event as a member of the international jury.

Students delivered 31 lectures in English in 6 sections on a variety of basic and clinical research topics of medical relevance. The speakers had 15 minutes to summarize their results, followed by a 5-minute discussion.

Jasper Nörenberg gave a presentation on the role of various gamma / delta T cells in maintaining pregnancy, and Balázs Ujvári presented the results from the examination of the role of the central projection of Edinger-Westphal nucleus in mood disorders associated with Parkinson's disease.

The 10-member international jury evaluated each presentation, and the top three presenters received significant financial rewards. The students of our School gave excellent presentations, and they excelled in the international field. The delegates reported that the conference was exemplarily well-organized, the scientific presentations were of high quality and there were many opportunities to build professional relationships.
