The Council of University Clinics held its first meeting this year

28 January 2020

László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology identified the key priorities for 2020 at the meeting of the Council of University Clinics on 23 January in Budapest, namely the renewal of training that focuses on clinical practice, the enhancement of scientific performance and ensuring the balance of clinical management.

The Council was established last year with the participation of the Rectors, Chancellors and Clinical Centre Presidents of the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs, the University of Szeged and the Semmelweis University. In addition to the everyday public service, the medical universities responsible for one quarter of inpatient specialist care also play a significant role in the most complex top care. Beyond the professional supply of Hungarian health care, the higher education institutions of medical and health sciences are also the most important participants in the field of domestic specialized research, which is outstanding internationally as well.

According to the statement, the Council members agreed that increasing the weight of clinical practice elements in the training will help graduate doctors to participate in health care as soon as possible and it supports the modernization of specialist training as well. From the point of view of the training reform, it is decisive that the focus is not on the disease but on the patient's cure and that education is supplemented with a number of elements that support the preservation and development of health. This year's first meeting, after presenting the management situation of medical and health science universities, also reviewed the state of strategic developments - concludes the document.
