Cardiologists can help remotely with a “transtelephonic EKG”

11 February 2020

A small device and teleconferencing are enough to halve the number of deaths caused by heart attacks in hospitals – it was said at an event for leading cardiologists and general practitioners in the country where they also said that cardiologists can help remotely with the “transtelephonic EKG” (TTEKG) system.

For years, most people’s death in Hungary is caused by some kind of circulatory system disease, in 2018, this number was nearly twice as many as the number of deaths caused by some kind of cancer, therefore it is important to use this Hungarian development. In fact, deaths have been reduced by more than 50 percent in cases where the transtelephonic ECG and the patient management and counselling system behind it have been used by paramedics and physicians in the case of acute heart failure.

The TTEKG fits easily in a small box, providing the highest level of so-called 12-lead ECG imaging anywhere under any circumstances in just one minute, and the patient receives quickly a consultation from a cardiologist as well, anywhere in the country.

The ambulance service has also joined the system and three-quarters of the national ambulance vehicles have been equipped with the most modern TTEKG equipment.

Professor Kálmán Tóth, director of the Clinical Center 1st Department of Internal Medicine says that similar mobile devices work in many places around the world but one that has such a serious specialist network behind it exists only in Hungary.
