A new flushing pump has been added to the equipment of the Pécs Department of Paediatrics

17 February 2020

The chair of the board of Thousand Smiles for Sick Children Foundation, Szilvia Kozák handed over a medical device worth nearly 800 thousand HUF to the Clinical Center Department of Paediatrics on 14 February. The new flushing pump facilitates endoscopic examinations, making it easier to establish the diagnosis and determine the therapy.

At the Department of Paediatrics, gastrointestinal endoscopy is performed nearly 200 times a year from infancy to the age of 18. Thanks to the support of the Thousand Smiles for Sick Children Foundation, the Department has been able to purchase a flush pump worth nearly 800 thousand HUF, which is used to wash the area examined during endoscopy. They can also use this device in the case of swallowed objects where it is extremely important how quickly they can determine the exact position of the foreign body. With the help of the pump, they can remove impurities in the field of vision, which, due to the increased visibility, allows for establishing the proper diagnosis and determining the therapy. This is especially important in childhood when examinations are performed under anaesthesia.
