New educational facilities have been launched at the Medical School of the University of Pécs

3 March 2016

Two new educational centers of the University of Pécs were opened on Tuesday by Mr Zoltán Ónodi-Szűcs, Health Secretary, Mr József Bódis, Rector of the University of Pécs and Mr Attila Miseta, Dean of the Medical School.

The Clinical Educational Center named after Dr. Béla Entz will provide enormous support in the theoretical field, while the Medi Skills Lab will help the students of the Medical School in gaining practical skills.Located within the Janus Pannonius Clinical Block and designed to fulfil the highest standards, the Béla Entz Clinical Educational Center will further improve the quality of the internationally acknowledged medical education in Pécs.

Its primary function is to serve the gradual training by housing altogether 375 persons in a 170-seat lecture hall, 4 larger seminar rooms with 40, 50, 60 seats, and a smaller 15-seat seminar room. Beyond instruction time it can also function as an excellent venue for conferences.

Medi Skills Lab (as it is called by both tutors & students) – Simulation Training Center of the Medical School of the University of Pécs (official full name). The newly launched facility is an example of achieving remarkable results by integrating inner resources through collaboration and good fellowship.

Its realisation started in 2012 with the support of the Educational Development Fund of the University of Pécs and the Student Council of the Medical School. After a one-year pilot period of instruction the Medi Skills Lab is now ready to open its doors to both the structural divisions and the external contact partners of the University of Pécs.

It has been designed to provide undergraduate and post-graduate students of the Medical School with the possibility of a complex/integrated hands-on skills practice of their future profession. It will have a supportive effect in practising certain movements, activities and procedures of the everyday tasks of a doctor or health worker.

Located on the top floor of the Main Building of the Medical School, the Lab is equipped with high-fidelity simulators, realistic dummies, the most up-to-date digital boards and 3D devices to motivate students in preparing for their future profession, even by the side of a patient’s bed in hospital. Besides the compulsory courses designed in the time-table for this kind of manual practice, the students are also offered the opportunity to do individual, self-motivated practice.
