Department of Pathophysiology and Gerontology

The head of the Department of Pathophysiology and Gerontology professor Ákos Koller introduces interesting new topics into the research profile of the Department such as the “ Role of endothelial cells and microvascular oxidative damage in the regulation of resistance of microvessels”.

Traditional topics of the Department supervised by professors Miklós Székely and Zoltán Szelényi such as “The central regulation of energy balance and its changes with age” or “Telemetric measurement of circadian rhythms of body temperature, activity, heart rate and food intake” have modern infrastructure due to the support of OTKA, ETT and GVOP grants.

In collaboration with other departments and clinics dr. János Garai supervises other research topics including the “Role of macrophage migration inhibitor factor (MIF) in inflammation”, “The effects of estrogens, phytoestrogens and dietary polyphenolic compounds in inflammatory models of arthritis, lung inflammation or on obstetrical inflammatory states” or “The effects of environmental endocrine disruptor molecules on the human body”. These studies are also supported by national and international ETT, GVOP and CASCADE grants.
