During the course the students get acquainted with the physical basics of the modern medical diagnostic and therapic methods, from a clinical approach. The aim of the course is to underlie or supplement the clinical knowledge with necessary information. During the seminars, wherever possible, practical demonstrations will also be held.

  • 3. Radioactive isotopes. Biological effects of ionizing radiations. Radioprotection
  • 4. Isotope therapy (Brachytherapy), radiotherapy
  • 5. Absorption photometry
  • 6. Fluorescence spectroscopy
  • 7. X-ray radiation: production, detection, absorption. Operation of the diagnostic X-ray instrument. Interpret X-ray image
  • 8. Computed tomography. Manipulation of CT-image (windowing, 3D reconstruction, virtual endoscopy)
  • 9. Isotope diagnostics: Gamma camera, SPECT
  • 10. Isotope diagnostics: Positron emission tomography (PET)
  • 11. LASER: features, absorption, effects on biological tissues
  • 12. LASER: dermatological, ophtalmological, surgical applications. Photodynamic therapy
  • 13. Ultrasound: production and physical features
  • 14. Ultrasound: diagnostic and therapeutic applications
  • 15. Basics of flow cytometry and cell sorting
