Sixth year medical student Kristóf Schauermann has received a Dean’s award on October 29 for his exemplary and selfless act of saving a life, after providing assistance to a woman who lost consciousness at a bus stop in Pécs. He was alerted to the scene by the SzívCity application.

The event happened on September 26, in the afternoon. The middle-aged woman lost consciousness at the Aradi Vértanúk bus stop. Several people went to help, and the operator of the National Ambulance Service directed an ambulance there, and also alerted the volunteers of the SzívCity application.

The alert was also sent to Kristóf Schauermann, who took his emergency bag and left his newborn child and wife to run to the bus stop, where he arrived with the ambulance. Thankfully, there was no need for resuscitation.

Dr. Miklós Nyitrai, dean of the Medical School was told about the selfless act by one of the attending ambulance officers. The dean then gave the Dean’s Award to Kristof Shauermann.

The award was handed over on October 29, during the Dean’s Council. “We are proud of our students; keep it up!” – said dr. Miklós Nyitrai.

“I have been using the SzívCity application for a long time, therefore I try to be ready at all times, in case something bad happens. As a medical student, offering help is part of the commitment” – said Kristóf Schauermann.

As he said, SzívCity is an application that alerts volunteers in case of loss of consciousness or heart failure is reported in a public place, just as it was done in this case. This way, help might arrive before the ambulance gets there, and life-saving help can be administered even sooner.
