Topic

English for Biotechnology BSc and Pharmacy Students 1-4. are courses designed to give students a comprehensive introduction to the scientific concepts and English terminology currently used in the field of Biotechnology and Pharmacy. Students will attain knowledge about the field of Biotechnology and Pharmacy and deeper understanding of the biological concepts used in English. Furthermore, students will improve all four skills, reading, listening, writing, and speaking in the field of Biotechnology and Pharmacy through extensive reading and listening comprehension tasks and also with writing and speaking exercises, class discussions, research projects and with the aid of guest speakers. In addition, students will develop critical thinking, communication and presentation skills presently used in all areas of Biotechnology. The objectives covered in these courses are both academic and practical in nature and are presented in a gradually demanding manner throughout the 4 semesters. The fourteen-week programme of 28 hours covers topics starting from grammar and presentation techniques, through oral and written communication, until preparing the students to writing and presenting their thesis.

Course purpose

The main goal of the courses is to gain fluency, literacy, and confidence in using English in the field of Biotechnology and Pharmacy. Students will learn to understand and use professional Biotechnology terminology and literature for all their purposes and necessities. They will gain knowledge in English to use their skills in individual class topics and for research projects, as well. Written assessments and student presentations will help students learn to write and speak concisely and accurately, while encouraging analytical thinking referenced to observations. This course is specifically designed to cover all of the possible topics regarding the academic level in the field of Biotechnology and Pharmacy with the aid of our up-to-date resources to their fullest extent. These fields include but not restricted to: Genetic manipulation, Immunology, Molecular biology and Gene technology and Pharmaceutical and Medical Biotechnology. Our goal is to train future graduates to fulfil their academic potential and have the opportunity to apply and participate in national and international MSc, later PhD programs.
