The aim of this project is detect of the proteins and endotoxin molecules by microfluidical methods. The qualitative and quantitative characterization of endotoxins are important, since their pathophysiological effects depend on their chemical structures.

The chemical agents are released a large amount into the environment (e.g. drugs, reagents and other harmful compounds). In spite of their high biological activity, their releases are not regulated properly. Their trace analyses require dedicated instrumentation (GC/MS, HPLC/MS-MS). Our primary goal is to establish new environmental determination methods for dangerous agents.

The source of our samples:  surface water, natural water, mineral water

The main goal of this project is to develop high-resolution capillary isoelectric focusing (CIEF) methods for the separation of amphoteric compounds (e.g. proteins and peptides). During the experiments we will test several capillary coatings in order to eliminate the adsorption of the macromolecules to the capillary wall and apply different additives (glycerol, urea) in order to avoid the precipitation of the focused proteins at their isoelectric points.

The qualitative and quantitative determination of steroid metabolites is very useful in the diagnosis making in different endocrine diseases and in recognition of dysfunction or absence of enzymes with an important role in steroid metabolism. In our researches we study the steroid background of different endocrine and psychiatric disorders.

Evaluation of medical and bioligical problems that come from the clinics and academic institutions, as well evaluation of your own research and statistic analysis.

The penetration of antropogenic contamination into soil and water is one of the most important environmental problems today. Some heavy metals pose serious health hazards through entry into the food chain by anthropogenic pathways. Certain natural materials of biological origin, including microorganisms possess metal-sequestering property and can be used to concentrate and accumulate heavy metal ions and in this way decrease their concentration.

The aim of the research is to explore the the defensive mechanisms of fungal cells: Saccharomyces cerevisieae, Candida tropicalis, and algal cells: Spirulina platensis and Chlorella vulgaris against metal ion contamination.

The concentration of fungal and algal cells may affect the amount of absorbed metal ion concentration. The basis of this phenomenon is the communication of cells depending on environmental metal ion concentration (quorum sensing). It is important to explore the transfer of information and the compounds which play a role in the defense mechanism against metal ions.

The microorganisms interact with each other using small molecules, they respond to environmental effects with different physiological processes. The Quorum sensing describes the phenomenon of microorganisms in which the individual cells detect with accumulation of the low molecular weight signal particles when the population has reached a minimum unit, or "a quorum", which induces a population response.

The detection of QS molecules (mostly trace amounts of substances) is carried out from culture medium of yeast and algas, using qualitative and quantitative instrumental analytical techniques using GC / MS, HPLC / MS. The concentration of metal ions is determined by atomic absorption spectrometry and ICP-MS.

Support for the researcher topics in solving statistical problems, such as experimental planning, data collection and evaluation of data obtained by appropriate methods.

In the specified topic urinary steroid metabolites (androgen, progesterone and corticosteroid metabolites) were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technic in various gynecological cancers.
