28 February 2018
The London Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) company published its latest university ranking on 28 February, which ranked the world’s best higher education institutions based on scientific fields. The University of Pécs got into the prestigious 451-500th position in the fields of life and pharmaceutical sciences.
The London ranking has three pillars methodologically: the assessment of academic reputation, the assessment of employer reputation, and the two indicators (citations, Hirsch-index) characteristic of the publications’ citations in the given scientific field. The former two factors are counted based on the answers given by the contacts provided by the universities, while the ranking creator calculates the references from the Scopus database. Based on the above indicators, the University of Pécs got into the prestigious 451-500th position in the field of life and pharmaceutical sciences, which verifies the detectable development of Hungary’s first university on an international level as well since every year more and more universities provide data, therefore the competition is becoming fiercer. Moreover, in one of the subcategories, namely in the field of medical training, our university was ranked to an even more prestigious place; 301-350.
József Bódis, rector of the University of Pécs, said the following in connection with the fresh international ranking: “It is very reassuring that after last year’s medical ranking by Times Higher Education, another acknowledged company creating university rankings has selected our university to the elite. Besides the increasing number of foreign students it is also a positive feedback for us. It is therefore important for us, among others, to execute the university development within the framework of the Modern Cities Program as efficient as possible so that we can upgrade the environment of the students and teachers to the level of teaching.”
