Longer or shorter periods of study abroad are not only good for students in professional terms but these are also financially rewarding, for example, if they spend their practice in another country in the framework of the Erasmus program or continue their studies for a semester elsewhere, they will find better paid jobs later.
The University of Pécs is the first in Hungary to join the European Commission's Association of European Universities program and, as a member of the EDUC (European Digital UniverCity) consortium, coordinates the internationalization and regional relation development program of the six-member association.
Dr. József Betlehem, Vice Rector for General Affairs, Connections and Strategic Affairs told about the details to Dunántúli Napló (Transdanubian Journal). As he said, six universities from five European countries participate in the program and Pécs was among the first ones to join the European Union's new "European Universities" initiative. The University of Pécs is a beneficiary because it is working on the implementation of a program element that is also the strategic objective of the university, which is internationalization. By first testing and introducing the novelties, UP is irrevocably among the leading universities in Europe while the new educational technology and methodology can also increase the competitiveness of the European Union.
Several EDUC projects explicitly aim to facilitate student mobility, reduce administration, and general digitalisation will simplify administration and eliminate the longstanding student problem with automatic course recognition. By developing virtual mobility, students can join international courses, teamwork and research teams online without having to move abroad for half a year. On the one hand, this is a great opportunity for those who cannot afford classic mobility for some reason, and on the other hand, there are many who do not dare to embark on a six-month foreign adventure.
"We aim to make the international learning environment more accessible to all students by developing short-term, group and virtual mobility opportunities," said dr. József Betlehem.
