UP has a prominent place in the UN ranking based on sustainable development goals

28 April 2020

Last year, Times Higher Education (THE) created a ranking based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the first time, which measures the environmental, social and economic impact of universities. This year, the University of Pécs is in the prestigious 301-400th place among 767 universities in 85 countries and in the fight against climate change, the UP is in the prominent 45th place in the ranking of THE Impact Rankings 2020.

The ranking of THE, published on 22 April, examined the performance of each university in a set of criteria based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted in 2015 by the UN. This year, six universities from Hungary took part in the ranking, and UP came in third among the Hungarian higher education institutions. Hungary's first university achieved outstanding results in three sustainable development goals: taking action on climate change, health and well-being, and decent work and economic growth.

“Universities competed along a total of 17 development goals, of which UP achieved good rankings in several categories. The overall ranking of higher education institutions is calculated based on the three best results and the score in the category of "partnership for sustainable development". Regarding the latter, the University of Pécs needs to further develop partnerships and social responsibility, and it is worth strengthening the communication of the certain goals both in education and towards society. Of course, we are striving for continuous improvement in all our goals,” said dr. Dániel Kehl, senior lecturer at the UP Faculty of Business and Economics.
