EGSC donates one million forints to the Pediatric Clinic

10 November 2020

The English-German Student Council (EGSC) is proud to announce that with the help of donations collected at International Evening 2019 we were able to donate 1.000.000 to the Paediatrics Clinic to purchase new medical equipment. Pictured (from L-R) are Louisa Larson, English-German Student Council German President, Laith Musharbash, English-German Student Council Secretary and Dr. Rózsai Barnabás, Head of the Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit and the brand-new high flow nasal cannula system.

Dr. Rózsai expressed appreciation on behalf of the clinic and said, “High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) system is using heated and humidified oxygen with very high flow rates, higher than a standard nasal cannula. It can help children with severe or moderate asthma, or bronchiolitis. Each cannula should snuggly fit into the patient’s nares and prevents entrainment of room air around the cannula. HFNC can warm (to 37oC) and humidify gas (to 100%), which can decrease airway inflammation, maintain mucociliary function, improve mucous clearance. Many times, this high oxygen flow can help avoid the intubation and mechanical ventilation. It is very comfortable for the patients. We thank very much the EGSC for their kind support to purchase buying this device.”

It is always a pleasure to see how the donations contribute to the improvement of patient care and teaching at the University. The EGSC would like to thank all the students and community members who have participated and attended our past International Evenings, because without you all none of this would be possible. Every year, through your contributions at the International Evening, the EGSC is able to donate to charities like Pécsi Jótékony Nőegylet, Pécsi Lion’s Klub, Pécsi Közösségi Alapítvány as well as various University Departments and clinics.
