The official appointment of the WHO Collaborating Center will be awarded for the Medical School of the University of Pécs

The memorandum of the establishment of the WHO Collaborating Center for Migration Health Training and Research of University of Pécs Medical School will be awarded in the Dr Halasy-Nagy József Hall, of the Faculty of Economy, Rákóczi Street 80 on Friday, 17 November at 5 pm.

The privileged partnership concerning education and research will become official which has been awarded as a result of the high-level professional operation and years of collaboration with the WHO of the Migration Health Center of the Operational Medicine Department. The document will be delivered by Dr Piroska Östlin, director at the Regional Office of WHO Europe, responsible of the Migration Health Programs and the coordinator of the Collaborating Center network.  

Dr Piroska Östlin visits Pécs to take part as keynote speaker at the joint conference of the University and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences titled Human well-being and the environment for living: health, environment, water, climate. Responsibility of science and education in the 21st century as part of the 650 Jubilee events of the University of Pécs on Friday. The visit enables the official initiation of the operation of the WHO Collaborating Center of University of Pécs with the presentation of the memorandum as the closing event of the conference. In agreement with WHO and the State Secretariat for Health, the appointment which will cover the European Region of WHO consisting of 53 countries will serve as a framework for the future operation of the Migration Health Center. This will be the only Collaborating Center in this specific scientific field in Europe. However, the significance of this title is clearly visible as only 3 Collaborating Centers will be established in the country in different fields of research. Semmelweis University will contribute in the field of healthcare management and leadership, while Deberecen Univeristy will collaborate in the field of healthcare of disadvantaged minorities.
