Doctoral Program Metabolic & Cardiovascular Disease, Application deadline: May 22, 2011
The Medical University of Graz, the University of Graz and the Graz University of Technology offer an excellence PhD program funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in “Metabolic and Cardiovascular Disease” that provides in-depth, multidisciplinary training in biomedical research in a stimulating international research environment. Thesis projects focus on aspects of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases that integrate basic research and clinically-oriented sciences utilizing a wide spectrum of state-of-the-art techniques.
• New concepts and technologies for studying metabolic and cardiovascular

• Lipid-associated metabolic diseases (D. Kratky, G. Haemmerle, R. Birner-
Gruenberger, J. Strauss, M. Trauner, U. Panzenboeck, K. Zatloukal)
• Cancer and lipid metabolism (G. Hoefler, R. Birner-Gruenberger, M. Speicher)
• Cardiovascular disease (B. Pieske, G. Haemmerle, E. Malle, K. Groschner)
We offer 3 PhD positions in the laboratories of the principal investigators shown below (large images). For selected PhD students there will be the possibility for up to 3 years employment starting October 1, 2011 with a contract that includes social benefits. Students will be encouraged to spend up to one year abroad joining collaborating laboratories.
WHO CAN APPLY
Applicants must hold, or be close to obtaining, an undergraduate degree equivalent to a Master in any discipline of natural or life sciences or medicine. The selection procedure, all training activities and communication will be in English. Thus, excellent written and spoken English skills are required.
