Topic

Identification of medicinal plants is based initially on the features of habitat and morphology, and on taxonomical categories origally from these characters from the Ancient Times. The correct botanical identification of morphological markers, which are specific e.g. to species, subspecies, and varieties, is of pivotal importance in the actual phytotherapy.

The course presents the most important significance of illustration of plants and drugs related to pharmaceutical and medical history, involving various illustration techniques. Presentation of e.g. the complete habitus, flower, leaf, fruit, and root is performed by graphics and aquarells for the detailed description of plants.

Students acquire the basic theoretical and practical methods of plants’ illustration, which promote the development of manual skills and accuracy of pharmacy, general medicine, dentists, and biotechnologists, as well.
