Topic

The Chemical Calculations course aims to help dentistry and general medicine students understand and practice the basic calculations in chemistry. The semester begins with the determination of oxidation numbers in organic and inorganic compounds. This is followed by the discussion of the most important concentration units (mass percent, mass-volume percent, volume percent, molar fraction, molar percentage, and molarity). Furthermore, we define the terms osmosis, osmolarity, and the differences between isotonic, hypotonic and hypertonic solutions. In addition, we discuss the hydrolysis of salts and the different pH calculations (strong acids/bases, weak acids/bases, buffers) in detail.
