Topic

Target group: open-minded PTE students with/without disabilities, who are pursuing studies related to health and/or sport and who are planning to study or work with individuals living with physical disabilities who are receptive to new perspectives.

Course Goals: The aim of the course is to raise awareness of parasport at national and international levels. Theoretical lectures will be given by international and national level professionals and para-sport practitioners on the development of parasport, its history, its positive physiological and psychological effects, the regional life of parasport, the background of sports science and sports health, and the basic research of parasport in the country and internationally. Students will gain insight into local and regional parasport life in the regions during hands-on sessions, while –through interactive lessons- participants will learn about the PEAC boccia and wheelchair basketball teams. With the help of this exciting and rather unconventional course, students will broaden their understanding of sports, while gaining a new perspective on sports in general (e.g. appreciating and developing strengths without emphasising weaknesses). Overall this course also aims to contribute to the new image of PTE as a responsive University.
