Topic

The subject provides general theoretical and practical foundations for modern pulmonology diagnostics and therapy in everyday clinical practice. We would like to emphasize the differential diagnostic problems with respect to other internal medicine diseases. The topic of the subject covers the special aspects of anamnesis and patient examination, presentation of the most important pulmonological diseases, the basics of pulmonological diagnostics, and modern therapeutic approach. The lectures are dedicated to introduce the most important respiratory diseases, their diagnosis and therapy. The aim of the seminar is to demonstrate the clinical pictures of frequent respiratory diseases. During the course we present the invasive and the noninvasive diagnostic methods at the bedside. The case reports will also be presented in the ward to illustrate the usual diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

We ensure to fulfil the practices prescribed in the lecture book.

Conditions for acceptance of the semester

Attendance at lectures and practices is mandatory; also for those students who take the course repeatedly and have already attended the classes before.

We also keep a catalog of the students' presence at the beginning of lectures and exercises.

In case of more than 15% of absence from the practices (i.e. more than 1 practices) or more than 15% of absence from all contact hours (lectures and practices counted together) will result in refusal of signature and exclusion from the exam. In such cases students may apply for leniency to the course leader. If the absence exceeds 25%, signature will be automatically refused with no possibility for excuse. We cannot make a difference between absences with and without acceptable reason.

If a student disturbs the contact hours or the work of the clinical ward, if his behaviour represents a health risk for patients, for groupmates or for himself, he can be excluded from the contact hour and considered to be absent.

Mid-term exams

Students take a written test during the exam period with the exam topics listed below. The result of the written test gives 80% of the final grade, 5 written exams are scheduled. Performance during the practices in the instruction period and the result of an oral practical exam held during the last two weeks of the instruction period account for 20% of the final grade.

Making up for missed classes

The student has the opportunity to make up the absence by participating in another group's practice of the same topic a maximum of 2 times during the semester; this must be documented with the seminar teacher.

9.) Arterial blood gas sampling. Evaluation of arterial blood gas results.

12.) Definition, classification, pathogenesis and pathology of Bronchial Asthma.
