Topic

The aim of the course is to consciously and measurably develop students’ 21st-century competencies—such as self-management, critical thinking, communication, digital awareness, and creativity. The selection, measurement, and development of these competencies are based on research and publications conducted by the OECD in this field. The course is not profession-specific; instead, it focuses on context-independent skills that can be applied in any academic, workplace, or personal life situation. Accordingly, the course does not aim to perform diagnostic tasks or to draw conclusions within the field of psychology. Rather, it has an exclusively pedagogical focus and introduces and uses tools that are accessible to anyone within the framework of reflective learning. The course is project-based, meaning that in each class students become familiar with a specific method or tool (e.g. time logging, the Eisenhower matrix, argument mapping, etc.), which they then try out during the week following the lesson to support self-assessment and development. Using these tools, students build an individual competency portfolio or map over the course of the semester, in which they document their practices, procedures, and reflections on a weekly basis. Our long-term goal is that, through this course, students undergo a shift in mindset that supports them in a wide variety of situations throughout their lives.

Conditions for acceptance of the semester

Each week, after applying the tool related to the given session, students are required to submit a reflection of at least 200 words. In this reflection, they briefly summarize their experiences gained while using the tool and articulate their personal takeaways as well as directions for further development. An additional requirement for completing the course is active and constructive participation in the classes, including collaboration in pair and group work.
