Topic
The course provides a general introduction to Bioinformatics. A survey of practical applications follows a brief theoretical overview for each sub-topic. Handling of genomic and structural data and the corresponding file types are introduced. A special emphasis is placed on structure-based drug design methodologies. Basic skills are practiced for each topic in the computer lab. The course is mostly based on open-source or free software, and the students are encouraged by homework to improve their computer skills further on their personal computers. Journal Club sessions supply additional up-to-date research results in bioinformatics and contribute to improving the presentation skills of the students.
