The team of the Medical School in Pécs came in second at the first international anatomy competition organized by the University of Glasgow and the European Federation for Experimental Morphology (EFEM), only one point behind the winning team from Cambridge, representing Hungary as the only team from the country.

Dr. Zoltán Rékási, associate professor at the University of Pécs Medical School Department of Anatomy, one of the team's teachers, said about the international success: "As the person in charge of the neuroanatomy subject, I recruited Medárd Varga, a Hungarian program student, and Woojae Jung, a South Korean, English program student, to the team. They have been awarded the Béla Flerkó prize for the best final exam result and are actively involved in the teaching activities of the department as demonstrators. In addition to them, 55 participants from 23 countries participated in the online competition. Hungary was represented only by the team of the Medical School in Pécs."

Out of 40 questions in the competition, which covered anatomy, neuroanatomy, and developmental science, the Hungarian team scored 37 points, while the winning Cambridge team scored one more.

"We are very proud of this success, as our students achieved this great result in a very competitive field. Suffice it to mention that medical students from prestigious universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and many other countries participated in the competition. This result also shows that Hungarian medical education, including medical education in Pécs, is competing with the top internationally," said Dr. Zoltán Rékási.
