Topic

he aim of this elective course is to provide students with hands-on experience of the complete workflow of histological section preparation, from tissue sampling to the creation of digitized slides. The course highlights that the quality and interpretability of microscopic images are fundamentally determined by the method of sample preparation; therefore, understanding the technical steps is essential in education, research, and diagnostic practice.

The sessions are organized in a block format from Friday to Sunday. On Friday afternoon, a brief theoretical overview is provided on the basic principles of histological techniques, including the purpose and significance of fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining. On Saturday, laboratory practicals focus on tissue sampling, preparation, and embedding. On Sunday, sectioning, various staining procedures, and the digitalization of histological slides are carried out.

The course is particularly recommended for students involved in TDK activities, thesis work, or research projects, as well as for those interested in morphological, experimental, or diagnostic fields. The acquired knowledge contributes to a deeper understanding of histology and anatomy and provides a solid foundation for future research and clinical work.

Conditions for acceptance of the semester

Participation in at least 75% of the classes is required.
To complete the course successfully, students must prepare at least one histological section during the practical sessions and digitize it as part of the course requirements.

Mid-term exams

At the end of each practical session, instructors review and support the students’ work.

No make-up or replacement sessions are available.
