Topic

The course aims to help medical and dental students in how to create high-quality digital or non- digital (artistic) illustrations for presentations/thesis. The practical course is consists of two main parts: During the seminars, students learn about the digital open source (GIMP, KRITA, etc.) programs and tools. These programs help to easily and quickly create pictures, flowcharts, and explanatory illustrations. Furthermore, we will show how to use other hand tools (chalk, pencil, charcoal, paint, etc.) which can be used to artistically create drawings primarily on paper or canvas. During the practices (two weekend mornings), the students have opportunity to create a digital and an artistic illustration about anatomical or histological preparations in the dissection room. The instructors and guests teachers from the art faculty actively help and participate in the creation of the illustrations. With the help of the practice supervisors, the students not only get a better understanding of the anatomical situs, but also gain a skill that they can use very widely both as a student and as a medical doctor. Since the practices do not only build on a knowledge base, these also provide students with a form of relaxation and self-expression.
