Thematik

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge required for the effective assessment of patients presenting for emergency care, based on the modern emergency medicine approach. This includes the triage system used in clinical practice, as well as the elements of the “ABCDE” approach necessary for rapid patient assessment and recognition of unstable patients. Following the “ABCDE” patient assessment framework, students acquire the fundamental skills required for the initial management of unstable patients.
During the semester, students participate in:

Six 1.5-hour simulation sessions

One 12-hour emergency department clinical shift
Emergency department clinical practice:
The clinical practice may be completed at any time during the semester, including daytime, night, or weekend shifts, based on individual scheduling, taking into consideration the following:

A maximum of four students is allowed per daytime shift

A maximum of two students is allowed per night shift
Each student is assigned to an emergency medicine specialist or resident and follows them throughout the entire shift. The student is involved in patient examination and management to the extent permitted by the supervising physician, taking into account the student’s individual competencies.

During the shift, students gain insight into the activities of triage, the resuscitation area (shock room), examination rooms, the monitored observation ward, and the toxicology unit.

Voraussetzung zum Absolvieren des Semesters

Participation in simulation practice requires prior completion of the assigned e-learning materials available on the Moodle platform.
To complete the semester, students must:

Actively participate in seminars and clinical practice

Complete the Moodle educational materials

Pass the written test at the end of the semester

Semesteranforderungen

There are no midterm exams.

Möglichkeiten zur Nachholung der Fehlzeiten

Absence from simulation practice is not allowed; missed sessions may only be made up following prior arrangement.
In accordance with the Study and Examination Regulations.

Prüfungsfragen

The exam will be an online test, conducted on the Moodle platform using a pre-compiled question bank.
