Thematik

During the course, the morphology and physiology of microbes, the methods of disinfection and sterilisation, and the basics of antimicrobial therapy will be discussed. The host-parasite interactions, the factors that contribute to the pathogenesis of infections, the host's defence mechanisms, and prevention strategies. will be detailed. The systematic microbiology part of the course will discuss the microbiological aspects of various infections caused by specific pathogens. Special emphasis will be put on the indigenous flora of the oral cavity, as well as microorganisms playing a role in the development of diseases in the oral cavity and the teeth.

The objective of this course is to provide a strong microbiological basis to understand the pathogenesis and clinical aspects of oral and other diseases, particularly those with an infectious aetiology that impact oral medicine.
