Both patients and doctors are happy to attend the new Dental Education Centre

23 September 2022

As we have already reported, dentistry students have started the 2022/2023 academic year in September in the new Dental Education Centre, just as inpatient care has also moved there from August 8. The 2750 square metre, five-story building was handed over opposite the Medical School on Szigeti street in Spring, and students, workers and patients are all happy to be there.

Dr. Ákos Nagy, director of the UP Department of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery said that their move from the Dischka Győző street centre happened in three weeks before August 20. He expressed pride, since his colleagues performed admirably, even thought they had to survey and move extensive equipment from their previous base. After fixing some issues with the commissioning of the new building, the fully trial run could being after August 20.

“We have not succeeded in fully establishing the new working environment, and we had some unpleasant issues, but everyone tells me that working here is much better than the old place. Rooms are big and light, everything is new, clean, blindingly white, and most of our chairs – 31 out of 61 – are brand new. The water is softened, which is a big thing here in Pécs, so even our coffee tastes better”

– listed dr. Ákos Nagy with satisfaction.

According to the director, patients can find the new location after some smaller issues, and he thinks they also appreciate that they can await treatment in a nice and calming environment both inside and outside. Employees are also happy to come to work here, and all of them have acquired their new “clinical shoes” instead of slippers to make moving between four stories more comfortable.

Dr. Ákos Nagy explained that education is going smoothly and continuously, lab education is still in Dischka Győző street. The student changing room and locker problem was also fixed, since there weren’t enough so far due to the high number of students. He was happy to state that both students and lecturers have enough space in the new rooms. He added: the silence on the administration floor is very nice, since in the new building they have their own floor.

The director believes that the parking issue of patients will also be solved in the near future, since based on current plans, they will have local parking spots. After coordinating the with engineering department of the university, they came to the conclusion that in places where employees don’t park, a pay-to-use parking service will be developed.

Dr. Ákos Nagy sees the goals of the near future in developing company culture, working hours, afternoon shifts, and paid patient care, and also in establishing a separate Faculty of Dentistry.
