Topic

This course recognizes the beneficial overlap between the manual skills required in both art and medicine. It provides a distinctive platform for medical students to enhance the tactile and cognitive skills that are directly applicable to their future careers in healthcare. This course is uniquely designed for medical students to develop and refine their manual dexterity, precision, and patience—skills that are essential for surgical and clinical procedures. It draws inspiration from the intricate art of traditional Easter egg decoration, a practice that requires a steady hand and attention to detail, mirroring the demands of medical techniques. As evidence suggests, engaging in art can enhance fine motor skills and cognitive abilities, which are directly transferable to medical procedures. Esteemed physicians, such as Prof. Dr. János Szentágothai of the University of Pécs, have historically demonstrated proficiency in the arts. The course will lead students through various exercises, from engraving and carving with professional tools to delicate wax application and precision painting. Ultimately, the created artworks may be showcased at the university, symbolizing the harmony between art and medicine.
