On 20 April, the PTE Surgical Society held its first conference, focusing on surgical case presentations for medical and dental students.
The conference was organised by student members of the PTE Surgical Society and maintained under the leadership of Dr Ibitamuno Caleb.
The society itself was founded in 2018 by students with the aim of helping fellow students in the field of surgery. As they wrote about themselves on the website of the University of Pécs Medical School, they want to practice and improve the practical skills needed by future surgeons, deepen their knowledge, while at the same time raising interest in the specialty.
The aim of the conference was to allow students in clinical years to demonstrate their skills on real surgical cases in front of their peers and clinicians. A total of nine lectures were given during the conference.
"We were pleased to see that the students showed a good understanding of the steps involved in clinical practice (history, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, surgical procedure and post-operative care). Prominent doctors from different surgical specialties were present in the jury and in the audience. We are grateful to all speakers, jury members, as well as to the supervisors and non-presenting students. We would also like to thank Dr Miklós Nyitrai, Dean of the Medical School and the leadership of our faculty for their support. Without them this event would not have been a success! Thank you!" said the organisers.
We also congratulate our winners:
- 1st place: Elisabeth Garcia (3rd year medical student)
- 2nd place: Li Lipaer (5th year medical student) and
- 3rd place: Christian Hammer (3rd year medical student)
