On 4 October, one of the world's largest biotechnology companies and the University of Pécs signed a cooperation agreement. It was signed by Raffaella Claudia Bondi, CEO of Roche Hungary Ltd., and Adrienn Kiss, Commercial Director of Roche Diagnostics Division, and on behalf of the University of Pécs by Professor Attila Miseta, Rector of the University of Pécs.

Roche Hungary Ltd. is a member of the Swiss, family-owned Roche Group, whose research has been guided by the goal of improving health for more than 100 years, while the University of Pécs Clinical Center is the health center of the South Transdanubian region, where more than one and a half million people are examined and treated annually. The two institutions have already cooperated in several areas before, and the new agreement formalizes and takes their partnership to an even higher level.

The cooperation was also welcomed by Tibor Navracsics, Minister for Regional Development, who said, "This partnership is an excellent example of the high level of scientific and industrial cooperation we are capable of. A cooperation that benefits not only the institutions and companies involved but also society and the economy."

Swiss Ambassador Jean-François Paroz said, "Our pharmaceutical companies rely on the Hungarian healthcare sector’s high level of expertise. Through their clinical research, they ensure that Hungarian patients have access to the most innovative treatments and save the Hungarian healthcare system billions of HUF in expenditure every year."

Raffaella Claudia Bondi, CEO of Roche, said, "As an innovative healthcare company, our goal is to improve healthcare in Hungary through collaborations like this so that the Hungarian people can also have access to the best care."

Professor Attila Miseta, Rector of UP, emphasized, "We are proud that one of the world's largest biotechnology companies finds our university worthy of partnership and cooperation. It proves that our researchers and teachers have the professional qualities to compete with the world's leading researchers."

Attila Péterffy, Mayor of Pécs, also welcomed the cooperation: “I am very pleased that the University of Pécs can strengthen further its network with the leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic industry companies. I am confident that the long-standing Swiss company will find a worthy partner in the researchers and staff of the University of Pécs. I am convinced that through such cooperation, not only the university but also the city will gain new knowledge, new relations, and thus new attractiveness.”

Under the agreement, Roche Hungary Ltd. and the University of Pécs will work together to create a predictable, efficient, and sustainable healthcare ecosystem that will contribute to Hungarian society's well-being and better health. They will jointly apply for national and international tenders and will also support the improvement of the Hungarian healthcare system by supporting education and doctor-patient interactions and by sharing international best practices.
