The leadership of the University of Pécs has introduced its all-encompassing development strategy for the 2023-2030 period on October 20.

Research, science, healthcare and art are all fields within which the University of Pécs has marked a goal of participation, supporting the development of Hungary and the European Union. The strategy determines the direction until 2030 that the University has agreed on; with the support of the Universitas Quinqueecclesiensis Foundation, the faculties and the university student council’s leadership regarding the development goals of the university.

It was mentioned at the press conference that the UP wishes to have a significant role in the South Transdanubian region in mental capacity, resident wellbeing and economical development, and they are committed to create an environment where innovative thinking and all form of creativity can flourish in a wide variety of basic and applied sciences and arts. The institute’s priority is strengthening university-centric innovation and research, and the involvement of artistic fields in order to improve the living quality of university citizens.

The institute-specific goals of the University include sustainability, excellence in biotechnology and fields related to medicine and healthcare, and also the more efficient application of data science.

The University of Pécs is committed to sustainable development, therefore the city of Pécs has joined the implementation of the 100 Cities Mission. In order to reach climate neutrality, they are among the first in decreasing climate load, in more efficient use of resources and acclimatisation to climate change. The UP is the greenest university in Hungary, and is contributing to making the future more sustainable by researching renewable energy and expanding the possible uses of hydrogen.

Via research in biotechnology, the UP wants to share and develop technologies that can help make the world a better place. They are creating the foundations for development with research in virology and genetic sequencing, as one of the main local and international base for such studies. The UP’s high level scientific involvement in biotechnology (so called smart technologies and bionic research) all contribute to the development of Hungary and the world.

In order to develop student services, the university is building on data science and artificial intelligence. Data-driven work could enable the creation of research and innovation frameworks that could contribute to the national and international acknowledgement of the university. Data-based thinking, proper gathering, analysis and usage of data is an important factor in both orientation and development, and therefore an integral part of building a successful future.

The University pinpoints it goal system in these main dimensions: education-training dimension, research-development-innovation dimension, healthcare service dimension, and the so called third mission dimension. By the latter, the University means the provision of services and support activities to the population of the South Transdanubian region, the country, Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans, as part of its social responsibility, outside the other dimensions.

The strategy formulates the institution's vision of the future in such a way that the University of Pécs intends to become a regional leader, a national leader and a leading international player.
