The workshop organized for developing clinical skills proved extremely motivating

The Demonstrator Student Circle, MediSkillsLab, and POTE-Koreans organized the 1st OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) workshop on November 20–21, providing medical students with an intensive opportunity to develop their basic clinical skills. The two-day event had a highly motivating effect on both junior and senior medical students.

While the original, comprehensive OSCE expects a wide range of clinical skills, this workshop focused solely on practical competencies, giving students a chance to perfect their skills through repetition. The workshop was structured into three-hour blocks during which students practiced essential clinical procedures. These included resuscitation and emergency care: AED (automated external defibrillator), BLS (basic life support), ALS (advanced life support), neonatal and pediatric resuscitation. Simple procedures such as arterial puncture for blood gas analysis, venipuncture, male and female catheterization, suturing, and bandaging were also practiced. In diagnostics, EKG, NIBP (non-invasive blood pressure measurement), otoscopic examination, and digital rectal examination were covered.

Participation exceeded expectations: 21 students attended on the first day and 26 on the second, all of whom gave highly positive feedback, supporting their satisfaction with outstandingly high scores. Junior students gained practical insights into their future clinical roles, while senior students arrived with targeted questions on how to apply the skills practiced on models to real patient care.

The success of the workshop was due to the coordinated work of the organizing and demonstrator teams. The organizers were Dr. Zoltán Sándor (MediSkillsLab), Joori Park (6th-year DDK student, member of the Emergency Society and Surgical Society), Seyoung Lee (5th-year DDK student, Emergency Society member), and Yoonji Chung (4th-year DDK student, POTE-Koreans member). The demonstrators were Anna Müller (6th-year DDK student, former Emergency Society member), Blankney Barton Levente (5th-year DDK student, Emergency Society member), Erik Peter Lindberg (5th-year DDK student, Emergency Society member), Dr. Maryam Sedighi (former Surgical Society member, Class of 2025), Thea A. Aa. Thoresen (4th-year, Surgical Society member), and Xinxin Li (5th-year, Surgical Society member).

The organizers extend special thanks to the members of the PTE Surgical Society and the PTE Emergency Society for their work.

The abundance of positive feedback has encouraged the organizers to begin preparations for the next workshop, planned for the spring semester. Their goal is to expand the themes by involving new specialties—such as obstetrics-gynecology or otolaryngology—so that students can gain even broader clinical experience.
