Introduction
Our research group was established in 2023 within the framework of the Department of Traumatology and Hand Surgery at the Clinical Centre of the University of Pécs. The group comprises practicing and research physicians, academic researchers as well as PhD students. Our goal is to improve the quality and efficiency of musculoskeletal care based on the latest scientific findings and professional protocols. We place a special emphasis on prevention, patient safety, and supporting rehabilitation through a multidisciplinary and innovative approach.
Our research focuses on maintaining quality of life in older age, as injuries and chronic musculoskeletal conditions are among the most significant sources of healthcare and societal burdens. We develop innovative solutions and examine their integration into clinical practice, such as mobile device-based vision screening, prevention strategies based on fracture registry data, and the development of perioperative nutritional protocols that facilitate faster recovery and improved quality of life for patients.
Our research also addresses surgical issues and rehabilitation challenges related to shoulder and upper limb conditions. We focus on implementing new implants and surgical techniques, while evaluating their outcomes using both subjective and objective methods.
Uniquely in Hungary, our research group established a clinical forensic medicine working group in collaboration with the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Pécs. This group aims to improve the quality of medical documentation, follow constantly evolving legal regulations, and assist practicing physicians. The research focuses on documenting injuries and conducting expert evaluations based on these records, benefiting both forensic experts and practicing physicians. The goal is to create a well-structured, standardized documentation system that complies with current regulations and reduces the administrative burden on healthcare professionals.
Our further aim is to provide more effective care for elderly patients through collaboration between the fields of traumatology and orthogeriatrics, supporting improvements in their physical and psychological conditions as well as the success of their rehabilitation.
With our research and developments, we aim to contribute to modern, patient-centered, and high-quality trauma care while supporting the continuous advancement of the clinic’s educational and scientific activities.
