Tematika

Nowadays, it has become natural for us to know what is healthy or to understand the factors behind a disease, but this was not always the case. The aim of the course is to introduce students to some particularly impactful projects that have been crucial for medicine and, indirectly, for everyone. Unfortunately, within the framework of graduate education, we can only mention 1-2 studies to the students, with no opportunity to discuss more or to detail these investigations. During the course, we would like to take the students back in time with the help of pictures and sounds, to show them the specific place and time when these historically significant medical projects began and produced new results that led to huge changes. We aim to uncover the challenges and obstacles researchers had to face, and we also talk about currently ongoing projects that are considered groundbreaking. In the course, we search for answers in small group sessions, thus counting on the active participation of students.

A félév elfogadásának feltételei

Active participation in classes and successful completion of the final course test.

Félévközi ellenőrzések

The completion of the course requires, in addition to active participation during classes, the preparation and presentation of an individual project during the course, and passing of a written test with at least 60%. The grade is based on these two tasks.

Students prepare their own project on a given topic, which they present to their peers during the course. Through independent research work, incorporating their own knowledgfe and ideas, students gather and process information. This information forms the basis of their presentation which will be followed by questions and comments from fellow students. The project work leads to deeper and more detailed knowledge for both the presenter and the audience. Students incorporate relevant information into the presentation, which, thanks to the class discussion, is likely to be interesting and perhaps more memorable from the perspective of other students as well.

Written test as described during the course.

Távolmaradás pótlásának lehetőségei

There is no makeup opportunity. In case of absence, the student learns the material of that day's lecture through PowerPoint presentations and supplementary materials uploaded to the Teams platform.
