What is the demonstration activity?
Within the frames of a demonstration program students of the graduate training participate directly in the education work of our clinics, institutes and departments.
Demonstration through revision and reinforcement helps to internalize individual studies, and also aids instructors to design, perform and assess classes. It serves as inspiration for students who receive subject-related information from their peers of similar attitude and mindset not only from the lecturers belonging to older generations. Similarly to the work of the Student Researchers’ Society (in Hungarian TDK), demonstration enables deep insight into a field of science, at the same time into the work of the instructors, and may promote acquisition of didactic thinking.
The demonstration activity does not exclude TDK activity; the opposite is true; they complement one another. Our excellent demonstrator students may share their experiences at the workshop of our Faculty’s Instructors. Educational assistant activity performed with growing self-determination and under control makes a suitable ground for acquiring and improving communication skills necessary for post-graduate training and possible future higher education theoretical or clinical instructor careers.
A few departments of our Faculty have a long tradition of involving students in education. A significant number of our colleagues in theoretical training and also clinic directors were active in demonstration programs during their university years.
Steps of the demonstration activity
Step 1 Choice of topic and instructor
Take into consideration the field of science you are most interested in, and also decide which previous instructor you would join as a demonstrator. Choose a subject, that you studied successfully, and completed the course with a good grade (at least 4). Without completion of the chosen course or in the case of a dissatisfactory grade you will be required to prove a good working knowledge. The instructor assigned to the course may determine the terms and conditions of starting a demonstration work with regard to completing other subjects relevant to the work.
Step 2 Work of instructor
Contact the instructor and under their guidance start assistance with the delivery of teaching in the given topic.
Step 3 Registration
In case you decide to take up a long-term demonstration work in the given subject, register for the demonstration activity, thus you become an official member of the Demonstrator Circle.
Demonstration work will be indicated in the electronic records system (ETR in Hungarian), and electronic reports, which together with the instructor’s verification may be advantageous in applications for projects, PhD studies and residency entrance exams.
Step 4 Participation in educational events, and workshop of instructors
As a demonstrator with your instructor’s recommendation, you may participate in educational and national health programs, similarly to those organized for high school and pre-medical students to prepare them for the medical entrance exam.
Excellency in demonstration activity enables students to share their experience one to two times a year with lecturers in workshops of instructors, and at education conferences.
Step 5 Demonstrator activity as a course
If you have been registered as a demonstrator for half a year, you may apply for a course ’Demonstrator activity’, thus collecting elective credit points. A continuous and high standard demonstration activity does not necessarily require registration for the course ’Demonstrator activity’.
Step 6 Demonstration grant
Successful participation in educational work (DDK) in one of the institutes/clinics/departments enables student demonstrators to apply for a demonstration grant.
