Introduction
The clinic was founded on 1st of January 1952 as the fifth independent urological institute all across Europe. Associate professor Tivadar Huth was the first director of the clinic. It started to operate on 1st of August 1953 at its current location in the downtown of Pécs, at Munkácsy Mihály street 2. The infrastructure was developed and renovated several times in recent years.
Location:
The clinic is easily accessible because of its central location. On work days, patient care is given by appointment. In case of emergency, we provide a 24 hour ambulatory service, where no appointment is needed. Unfortunately, the clinic cannot provide parking space for patients arriving by car, in this case you can use the parking opportunities in the surrounding streets and the deep garage nearby.
Patient care:
The clinic is responsible for the urological care of the inhabitants of Baranya county as the only institute in the region providing inpatient care. In addition, as the only clinic in the region of Southern Transdanubia certified for the highest, level 3 urological care we provide specialized care for patients in the surrounding counties. Besides all this we are a national center for care of penile tumors. We practice all the fields of urology, but our main profile is uro-oncological surgery with both conventional open and minimal invasive (laparoscopic and robot-assisted) methods. Furthermore, endourological procedures for urinary stone disease, for diseases of the lower urinary tract (bladder tumors, BPH/LUTS, etc.), gyneco- and neurourology, reconstructive urethral surgery and andrological microsurgery is performed.
Education and Research:
In addition to patient care, our main goal is to provide high quality education for the university students. Our colleagues teach medical students on three languages (Hungarian, English, German). We participate in the training of the students of Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and urology residents all across the Transdanubian region. We provide postgraduate courses for specialists as well on a regular basis.
Our main field of interest in research was the molecular genetics of renal tumors in recent years. Several international publications were published in high quality papers and many PhD dissertations were written based on these. Furthermore, we do research on the field of prostate, bladder and penile cancer, radical pelvic surgery, neuro-urology, male infertility and the development of surgical simulation devices. Our colleagues take part in pharmacological clinical investigations and in the andrological work group of the National Laboratory of Human Reproduction.
Staff:
Currently, 16 specialists and 8 residents are working in our clinic. Most of our doctors are nationally, or even internationally known in their field of interest, who are taking part in conferences, courses, trainings constantly to maintain their knowledge up-to-date. 9 of our colleagues have a Ph.D. degree.
The previous and the current leaders and colleagues of our clinic have had a huge impact on the development of Hungarian urology. Our primary aim is to preserve and hand on the values created by them to the future generations, and to provide a high quality care service, educational and research activity.
