The goal of the University of Pécs is to ensure that cashless payments options take priority for student payments as well, therefore they will be regulated by a rector’s and chancellor’s order from June 30, 2024. From this date, cash payments made at the cashiers of the university will incur a fee for students who are not hindered by their nationality in opening a Hungarian bank account or transfer money from their own countries.
Those who are exempt from paying the extra fee can complete their cash payments for free, without extra charges in the foreign currency cashiers or in case of Forint payments, other university cashiers are citizens of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Barbados, Burkina Faso, Republic of South-Africa, Republic of South Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Republic of the Philippines, Gibraltar, Haiti, Iran, Jamaica, Republic of Yemen, Republic of Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Republic of Mali, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Republic of Mozambique, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Republic of Panama, Republic of Senegal, Syrian Arab Republic, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Republic of Uganda, Republic of Vanuatu, Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The university provides free of charge cash payment options to those students – regardless of their country of origin – as well, who have an authorisation from the dean due to special circumstance.
Those students who are not from the countries listed above, and do not have a dean’s permit and would like to fulfil their payment requirements towards the university via a financial institution or bank transfer or would like to fulfil their payments in cash by paying directly at a bank in foreign currency and forints can only do this at a handling fee at the university cashiers from June 30.
The net-worth of the handling fee is equal to 1.5% of the amount of the currency used during payment. The student pays the gross amount of the handling fee during cash payments, which is rounded up to the next nearest round (ends with 0) numerical value. For forint cash payments, the cash handling fee is fixed at 500 HUF/item. Payment of the cash handling fee is done in the same currency as the payment was issued in, and the cashier issues a separate receipt from the accounting system of the university.
Paying directly in a branch of OTP bank is preferential compared to payment done at university cashiers, as the cash handling fee there is significantly lower at 0.5-0.6%.
Any handling fees in such cases are paid in HUF and may be fulfilled exclusively with cash on the spot, at the time of the transaction. In case of foreign currency payments, the bank converts the handling fees to HUF according to the exchange rates applicable on the day of the transaction, that are announced OTP Bank itself.
