The Pécs pharmacist graduate, dr Péter Pék, built a career in Germany and he also has his own product

21 June 2021

Dr Péter Pék, who graduated from the Pharmacy Program of the University of Pécs Medical School in 2015, opened his own pharmacy in Germany in the middle of the coronavirus epidemic. He is thinking of creating his own product range, one such product has already been completed and is available, and his plans are to export it to Hungary as well. The pharmacist who graduated from Pécs was interviewed by UnivPécs.

Péter Pék was born in 1985 in the county seat of Baranya, went to school in Hidas and later to Harkány, then graduated from Leőwey Klára High School in Pécs. He cherished athletic laurels, played for both Fradi and PMFC for a shorter time, but an injury intervened. He began university and started his studies in the pharmacy program at the University of Pécs Medical School.

“When we lived in Hidas, my father and I went to the fields and collected herbs. It caught me. My late uncle, dr Gábor Pék - who also graduated from Pécs by the way - was a great orthopaedic surgeon. He was also a little motivation for me to choose this carrier but there was no pharmacist in the family before me,” said Peter.

He also revealed that after his first job interview, he began to orient himself abroad. As he said, he was offered such a ridiculously low salary that he sent his CV to dozens of places in Germany that day from which positive responses began to lean. After the recognition of his Hungarian degree, he started working in Stuttgart, then moved to the Passau area, from where he made his way to Freilassing at the beginning of June last year, taking over the Alpen Pharmacy.

The coronavirus epidemic made their lives extremely difficult, but “fleeing forward,” as an alternative to moving to the U.S. and starting again, took over a pharmacy in Laufen. Here, their own product, a digestive and appetite-enhancing stomach bitter, is already available, which the former Pécs pharmacy student is already thinking about exporting to Hungary, as well as creating his own product range.

Peter also spoke a few words about his family. His partner, Cyntia Panyi, grew up in the USA and graduated in 2019 from the English Program at University of Pécs Medical School. Their first child is expected this September. As he put it, the little one will be "a real world-citizen: a Hungarian-American baby who will be born in Salzburg."
