Students could try suturing, dental fillings and resuscitation, could study tissue samples and conduct Petri-dish experiments at the open day of the University of Pécs Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy on December 8. Visitors could get information about the admission system to be changed in 2024, accommodations and scholarships for the general medicine, dentistry, phamarcy and biotechnology courses.
- The open day of the UP Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy had about 5-600 attendees in the past few years, but this year we have experienced a surge in visitors – said dr. Zsófia Duga, head of the UPMS Marketing and Communication Department.
According to her, the open day attracted around 1200 attendees from all over the country. High school students often arrived with their parents, and there were many who did not register beforehand, only at the event itself in person.
She emphasized that almost half of the attending students are in their final year of high school, the others are in grades 10 and 11, who still have a year or two until their graduation but are already planning their future. The lectures about courses have garnered a large number of participants, and many people were interested in the changes to the admission system to be implemented in 2024 – she added.
The open day was held in the new theoretical building of the Medical School. The new building was handed over in 2021 September, and was built using over 14 billion HUF funds provided by the Modern Cities Program. The most popular stands were those offering interactive tasks.
At the stand of the Anatomy Department, students could look at tissue samples, those interested in dentistry could try doing fillings at the Dentistry stand. The UP 3D Printing and Visualisation Centre gave an insight into medical 3D printing, and the Medical Skills Development and Innovation Centre introduced attendees to the equipment for developing medical manual skills, simulators, machinery using 3D printed technologies.
