Meeting of cultures – this is how the 2026 International Evening went

1 April 2026

This year, the Lauber Dezső Sports Hall in Pécs was transformed into a ballroom for one evening, hosting the International Evening of the University of Pécs on 28 March. The event was a celebration of cultures, traditions, and diversity, featuring traditional dance and fashion shows, as well as culinary delights.

The International Evening is a large-scale event with a history spanning several decades, playing a significant role in the life of both the Medical School and the University of Pécs. It is organised year after year by the UP Medical School English-German Student Committee (EGSC). The aim of the evening is to bring together international and Hungarian students to celebrate cultural diversity while also getting to know each other’s national cuisines.

The theme of this year’s International Evening was a masquerade ball, so some participants wore traditional folk costumes, while others who wished could wear masks and blend into the crowd. Performances followed one after another on stage: fashion shows and musical performances enriched the programme; among others, the PMS band (Pécs Music Society), consisting of Hungarian and international students, took the stage—a group formed with the aim of bringing together students who play music and those who love it. The official programme concluded with a sensational party that lasted until dawn.

The event’s motto, “Let’s celebrate cultural diversity together!”, aptly reflected multiculturalism, the importance of living together, the acceptance of one another’s cultures, and the University of Pécs's community spirit.
