OSCE 2026: spring practice workshop attracted many students again

22 April 2026

On March 20 and 23, the second OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) practice workshop was successfully held at the Medical Skills Education and Innovation Center of the Medical School in Pécs. This internationally recognized, complex examination method has now been contributing to the development and structured assessment of medical students’ practical skills, clinical reasoning, and communication competencies for four years. The two-day event proved to be highly motivating for both junior and senior students.

The workshop was organized by the Demonstrator Student Circle, MediSkillsLab, and POTE-Koreans. Its realization was made possible by strong student interest, the collaboration of two active student organizations (emergency medicine and surgery), and the support of experienced demonstrators from the Department of Languages for Biomedical Purposes and Communication, under the supervision of Dr. Csaba Gergely József.

Building on previous experience, this event was expanded with new specialty stations, including obstetrics and gynecology (cervical cancer screening/Pap smear and gynecological examination) and otorhinolaryngology (otoscopy). The sessions were led by experienced specialists. Participants practiced patient history taking and physical examinations with simulated patients portrayed by trained demonstrator students. In addition, after reviewing basic (BLS) and advanced (ALS) life support, students had the opportunity to apply the ABCDE approach in simulated emergency situations.

Attendance met expectations: a total of 23 students participated, 18 on the first day and 20 on the second. More than half had also attended the previous semester’s workshop, demonstrating their commitment and desire to practice. Fifth-year students preparing for the April OSCE exam were also present. They reported that the workshop helped them better understand the structure and expectations of the exam. They particularly appreciated the simulated patient history-taking exercises and the clinically oriented specialty training sessions led by physicians. The teaching specialists also expressed satisfaction with this educational format and emphasized their openness to future collaboration.

The workshop was open to students of all years, regardless of whether they were registered for the OSCE exam, thereby broadly providing an opportunity to acquire essential clinical skills. For those registered for the April OSCE, two additional targeted practice sessions were organized using checklists.
