The recognition was presented on 6 June during the ceremonial Senate session held on the occasion of Hungarian Pedagogues’ Day in the Dr Romhányi György Aula. The award is granted to educators who demonstrate outstanding achievements in teaching and talent development.

Each year, during the ceremonial Senate session celebrating Hungarian Pedagogues’ Day, the Rector of the University of Pécs presents the Golden Podium Award to one educator from each academic unit based on the nominations received. The distinction aims to acknowledge the professional dedication of educators and their commitment to supporting students. Award recipients receive a certificate of recognition and a monetary prize.

In 2026, Dr Éva Mikó, Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology of the University of Pécs Medical School, received the recognition on behalf of the faculty.

“It is a great honour for me that my educational activities have been recognised with the Golden Podium Award. For more than two decades, I have been teaching medical microbiology and molecular cell biology at the University of Pécs Medical School in Hungarian and German, and occasionally in English. In addition to compulsory subjects, I also contribute to student education as a lecturer and course director of several optional and elective courses, while supervising multiple diploma theses each year,” said Dr Éva Mikó in connection with the recognition.

She emphasised that throughout her teaching career, she has always aimed not only to transfer knowledge, but also to inspire curiosity, critical thinking and professional commitment among students. She added that it is particularly rewarding for her that her work is consistently accompanied by positive student feedback and awards granted on that basis.

“This is not the first time that the University of Pécs Medical School has recognised my teaching activities, for which I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation. I accept the Golden Podium Award not only as a personal recognition, but also as an acknowledgement of the work carried out together with my students and colleagues,” she added.
