Students of the University of Pécs Medical School achieved outstanding results at this year’s 2026 FISU World University Championships Cheerleading, which was held in Gothenburg in June. Réka Dorottya Giron, Dóra Zsófia Imre, and Lili Rózsa Szadeczky, members of the Hungarian national team and competitors in the PTE PEAC Cheerleading division, finished 4th in the Coed Cheer Team category. Joined by fellow Medical School student András Réti, they also delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 ICU European Cheerleading Championships, held in Prague in July, where they finished 5th as members of the PTE PEAC Coed Team.
“Both competitions had an amazing atmosphere. Athletes from different countries quickly built friendly connections with one another, there were spontaneous group stunts, acrobatics and dancing, and they also exchanged national souvenirs,” said Dr. Beatrix Perjés, head of the Cheerleading division of PTE PEAC. She noted that 16 countries participated in the World Championships, while the European Championships featured teams from 24 countries. At the World Championships, their opponents included strong teams from Japan, China, and Brazil, while at the European Championships, the top-performing nations were Austria, Poland, Greece, Norway, and Slovenia. She added that, following the summer break, the students’ next competition will take place in November.
