Tematika

The primary objective of this practical course is to enable students to master the fundamental laboratory techniques required for the safe handling of microorganisms. Proficiency in aseptic techniques provides essential skills that are indispensable for pharmaceutical activities, directly supporting the goal of ensuring access to safe medicines.

The training places significant emphasis on the diagnostic background of antimicrobial therapy, which is a cornerstone in the global fight against antimicrobial resistance. Knowledge of antimicrobial susceptibility testing, measurement of antibiotic concentrations in body fluids, and the evaluation of antimicrobial combinations empowers pharmacists to act as consultants within multidisciplinary teams in the effective management of infectious diseases.

Understanding the theory and practice of sterility and pyrogen testing, demonstrated during the course, serves as the foundation for safe drug supply and a comprehensive pharmaceutical quality assurance mindset. Furthermore, students become familiar with key laboratory methods and gain an overview of their roles in microbiological diagnostics. Equipped with this knowledge, future pharmacists will be capable of critically interpreting microbiological laboratory reports and supporting targeted, rational antimicrobial therapy in patient care.

Regular attendance of classes (a maximum of 3 missed weeks can be accepted) and earning a passing grade (grade 2-5) on the end-of-term assessment is required for accepting the semester.

Félévközi ellenőrzések

The end-of-term assessment will be an oral exam held at the regular time of the class on the last week of the semester. In case of an unsuccessful end-of-term assessment, a retake opportunity is granted following personal discussion with the course director.
