The University of Pécs has been included in two categories in the newly published professional field list of SanghaiRanking, which publishes the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The institution was ranked 401-500th on the list of the 500 best universities in the world in the fields of clinical medicine as well as public health.
The scientometric basis of the list is the Web of Science, with publications from 2014 to 2018. Universities do not provide data for the ranking, i.e. it is compiled based on objective criteria. This ranking is published since 2007 and this more detailed list of professional fields has been compiled since 2017, on which 54 professional fields are ranked. The evaluation is carried out in a 100-point system, mainly by weighting the indicators specific to publishing activities, taking into account the number of publications and their place of publication in the literature, citations, the proportion of publications in international cooperation and the number of significant awards in the given field. The University of Pécs was already included in the 500 list of the field of clinical medicine in 2018 and last year and this year the university managed to maintain this prestigious position.
Professor Attila Miseta, Rector of the University of Pécs said in connection with the ranking: “We announced the success of our university in the London Quacquarelli Symonds ranking just three weeks ago and here is another confirmation that we are on the right track. However, it should not be forgotten that there are still quite a few fields of science in the cases of which it would also be great to be included in this narrow elite. We will work on this in the future.”
