1 July 2020

The leadership of the University of Pécs Clinical Center thanked more than 80 employees for their hard work, which was continuous and high-quality even during the epidemiological situation; they received awards on Semmelweis Day (June 30) in the Bartók room of the Palatinus Hotel.

“More than 6,000 people are treated daily in outpatient care and 1,000-1,200 people are treated daily in inpatient care at the UP Clinical Center. That is a huge number. Today, those employees are here who work side by side, complementing each other every day of the year” - said Professor Andor Sebestyén, President of the Clinical Center.

“The way the employees responded to the COVID situation was moving, with empathy and maximum expertise. We can be proud of them! We experienced that we were able to stand our ground in the middle of an epidemic as well. Respect and help each other even in the most difficult times!” - Professor József Betlehem, Vice Rector of the University of Pécs emphasized in his speech.

“We could only keep the Semmelweis principles in mind - since we do not have a vaccine or medicine at the moment. In addition to the timely decisions of the government, the work of healthcare workers played the biggest role in the fact that the epidemic in Hungary remained relatively mild” - said Professor Lajos Kollár, ministerial advisor who also said that the transformation of healthcare has begun and spectacular changes can be expected in the next two years.

Out of more than 3,500 employees in the 31 organizational units of the Clinical Center, 81 people received various awards.
