The University of Pécs was ranked in the prominent 201-300th position in the latest international ranking of the prestigious, London-based Times Higher Education (THE), published on 21 April. With this ranking, UP has become the best Hungarian university in the ranking of more than a thousand universities in 94 countries.
The University of Pécs was included in the Times Higher Education ranking called “Impact Ranking” and thus became one of the 1115 best institutions ranked from 94 countries. The London-based company evaluated the institutions along the 17 sustainable development goals accepted by the UN. UP has been placed in a category with universities (201-300th) such as the Sorbonne University in France or the University of Massachusetts in the United States and has overtaken higher education institutions such as the University of Parma or the University of Tokyo, among others.
Among the Hungarian universities, the University of Debrecen, and the University of Szeged (both 301-400th), Semmelweis University (401-600th), ELTE and the Széchenyi István University (both 601-800th) were added to the list. The top is dominated by Anglo-Saxon institutions, with three Australian, one British and one Canadian universities in the top five, the first institution is the University of Manchester.
“Of course, we are pleased with the result, but there is still room for improvement and we have the opportunity to do so because we have excellent teachers and students” - emphasised dr. Attila Miseta, rector of UP, who added that our background conditions are getting better and better thanks to the European Union and domestic grants, as well as our successful application activities. As he put it, he wants all faculties of the institution to be effectively involved in enhancing the university’s reputation.
