On Saturday, September 26 2020, the „Internal Medicine Propedeutics“ workshop was held for the fourth time in the Medical Skills Lab of our university.
A total of 18 third-year students attended the workshop, where they were given the opportunity to improve their skills and gain routine in performing a physical examination.
Each group was assigned 3 students and a demonstrator, so they could gain experience in the physical examination in a friendly, almost family-like atmosphere. Within the groups, students were able to experience what it was like to be in the role of the patient by examining each other.
The main motto of the session was “Practice, practice… and more practice”, but there was enough time to answer all the questions and also to pass on some theoretical information.
After a short theoretical introduction during the 6 hours of the workshop, the demonstrators presented each region according to the IPPAF scheme (viewing-touching-tapping-listening), starting from the head-neck region through the abdominal region to the limbs.
A little refreshment was provided in lunchboxes containing sandwiches, fruits, sweets and drinks during the breaks.
At the end of the workshop, the demonstrators were left with an amazing feedback coming from the participants and there was a significant need to organize similar workshops in the future, even several times during a semester. Despite the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemics, students were happy for the opportunity to be able to master and practice the physical examination in person.
We would like to thank all the participants, demonstrators, organizers as well as the management of the DDK and the staff of the Medical Skills Lab for their cooperation and preparation.
