Led by the University of Pécs, the University of Debrecen, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the International Business School have opened a joint recruitment office in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. At the inauguration ceremony, dr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology, and dr. Attila Miseta, Rector of the University of Pécs gave speeches, emphasizing the importance of educational and research relations.
The internationalization of higher education has been a priority for Hungarian universities and the government for many years. In addition to the highly successful Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, the number of foreign students paying tuition fees is also constantly increasing. However, this goes beyond generating revenue: with the involvement of international students, the quality and competitiveness of Hungarian higher education also increases, from which domestic students also benefit. The opening of a Kenyan counselling office is a milestone in student recruitment activities that support this. The head of the local office is Caroline Kithama, an alumna of the University of Debrecen who can authentically represent Hungarian higher education.
